Working at UBS for a mere two weeks has already taught me about what makes a job in finance so beautiful. It’s not because of the money, or the chance to dress nicely, or even because you feel like you’re making a difference in people’s lives (yeah…right). It’s something as simple as the people that work there. I definitely don’t mean their personalities because we all know the people in finance are total a** holes (no offence to anyone of course). It’s actually the overwhelming plethora* of beautiful women.
(ok…maybe this is an exaggeration)
Jobs in finance seem to be a magnet for good looking girls. Now, I hope this doesn’t take jobs away from the general population of women because we definitely wouldn’t want that now, would we?
In all seriousness, the fact remains that I can’t walk down a hallway without seeing a pretty secretary or analyst. Although the top guys haven’t really told me specifics, they definitely hint at the fact that its a requirement…especially if you intend on staying at the company for the long run…but not the really long run if you know what I mean
.
I hope (and don’t hope) that this isn’t a continuing trend. Because this kind of bias shouldn’t (should) be tolerated in a country like this.
P.S. I apologize for this post.
* I really wanted to use this word.
