Every now and then, if you listen carefully, you will hear some truth coming from the ranks of the GOP. The Washington Post reported these comments made by GOP Sen. Lindsay Graham (S.C.):
The demographics race we’re losing badly. We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.
As the Post reports, the country’s shifting demographics have party leaders worried about their future success, even about their chances in November:
Exit polls from 2008 showed that 90 percent of GOP voters were white, a homogeneity that has been consistent for more than 30 years, even as the percentage of the electorate that is white has fallen.
I’m not sure which part of Graham’s comments I find most interesting, that he would admit this is a problem for Republicans or the implicit understanding that the GOP’s electoral strategy depends on keeping white guys angry.
